Happy New Year!

It was a very blessed year: I could meet new friends (around the globo), visit Santa Claus in Finland, study Aromatherapy together with my beloved friends in Texas, have coffee at Starbucks with very special people, buy a new car, get an Ipad, spend quality time with my nieces, consolidate old friendships (that was very, very important), run with my husband, play with Kika, be proud of some students, be hopeful about others, pray for all of them, drink and eat new flavours, read some books and guess what...I could finally give Elaine the photos she asked me about her grandmother!
Of course there were somethings that went wrong, but who are counting?
For 2011 the plans are getting more and more experiences to make life really meaningful.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR EVERYBODY! 2011 FULL OF HEALTH AND FRIENDS! (if you have that, all the rest come easily!)
See you in 2011...

2011 - oportunamente oportuno!

Are you happy?

2010 is getting to the end and 2011 is just around the corner!
We, human beings, have just one "mission" to accomplish - to be absolutely happy!
If things didn't work out so well in 2010, don't worry - u are going to have a new chance in 2011! Only u know what it takes for u to be happy - and I do hope that u, me and everybody else can find out about it as soon as possible. And when you learn what makes u happy, may you share that with other people. The recipe of being happy is different for each one, but one thing is absolutely sure: your example can inspire others and bring hope.

It may be a crazy life, but it's our life!

DEAR STUDENTS (3ºEM)

At the end of the year, we can conclude one phase and get ready for the new period that is about to come...
I'm really very happy because a lot of you have already chosen a new path in your lives. May your way be made of success and great opportunities. Sometimes all that can become a little bit crazy...but that the way it is! If it happens, remember alvin and Hobbes cartoon of our last test...we must do the better we can with the knowledge we have! It may be a crazy life, but it's unique, it's yours - to the best you can - always!
I also would like to thank all of you for inviting me to be in charge of conducting the graduation cerimony. It's a great honor! Thank you very much!
See you at the prom!

O i é a letra do Ìndio

E do Vento Vagabundo

Quem te ensinou a ler e a escrever?

It's HALLOWEEN!

This is one of my favorite celebrations! I was very grateful because I had the chance to go to Dallas in the beggining of this month and what an incredible and nice surprise...places such as restaurants, supermarkets, the hotels, the shops in the mall, even Starbucks... almost everywhere were decorated to celebrate Halloween! The Barnes & Noble bookshop (photo on the left) was really cute! And besides that, the child section had some great bargains! Buying three books about Halloween (some of them were very cheap - about U$3.00)you could get a nice bag to go "trick or treat". I bought the books (for my nieces) and brought the bag full of chocolate and marshmallow (in the ghost shape) to my husband. He loved it! (Of course I suggested it would be a great idea if he could think about sharing all that...with me!). At Starbucks, there were some nice witch-hat-cookies which were beautiful and delicious! Some people may think it was pretty commom, but for me who isn't used to this, I thought it was very creative!
Phot by Verginia Veloso
Good coffee, delicious food and lots of great books... what else would somebody wish? OK, I guess that to be perfect it was only missing my husband keeping me company! It would be heaven to me! Although we don't really celebrate it properly here in Brazil, I do like to get together with my family and watch movies like "Practical Magic" (Da Magia à Sedução)or read books about vampires and witches or comic books like "Penadinho's Gang". Cooking is also a great activity and it really brings family together. We love to drink coffee after meals! So we decided to make a "Witches' Brooms", just to add a little charm to our coffee and I can tell you...it was really good! Not difficult to make. We use some cinnamon sticks to make the broomstick and small cookies that we pressed the dough with fork to resemble bristles of broom. We put the two parts together with hot melted chocolate. As soon as the chocolate gets cooled and firm, we had nice "brooms" to stir our coffee.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Sorte nossa!

Teacher's Day

Today we are celebrating the Teacher's Day! Although being a teacher is a very known profession, "teaching" is a kind of activity that is done by everybody! Parents teach their children, friends teach and are taught by other friends, elderly people teach the young ones and vice-versa. Learning is a process that is absolutely connected to life itself.
Isn't interesting that some people actually do that for living? It's a great privilege to be able to exchange knowledge with the students and learn a lot from them. I do think that it's one of the most important teacher's features - be aware that we, as a teacher, know a lot but not all - and there will always have "room" for learning more and more. Being a teacher is a process that will not be totally completed because we've been learning, researching, studying...and we will always keep doing that for the sake of our students! That's what make a great teacher - being humble and patient! Pacience is required because the harvest of the fruits of this hard "teaching" work will only be seen years and years later...
For all my friends that work at school with me - HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY!

"If you think in terms of a year - plant a seed;
If in terms of ten years - plant a tree;
If in terms of 100 years - teach the people!" - Confucius

Teacher Wagner and Snoopy - our best wishes!

Today is a very nice day! Besides celebrating teacher Wagner birthday we also celebrate the 'Peanuts'60th Anniversary! What a great day! Can you belive that...Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip “Peanuts” and its cast of characters including Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Lucy turn 60 today? And they keep on captivating our hearts and minds as they did since their first strip, on Oct. 2, 1950.“Peanuts” has appeared in more than 2,000 newspapers in 72 countries and 21 language(according to The Associated Press). Although we can have one character which is our favorite, there is no doubt that people all around the world just love this group of friends and its lovely Beagle! There are 17,897 original “Peanuts” comic strips. Schulz (Peanuts author) announced his retirement on Jan. 3, 2000. He died on Feb. 12, 2000, one day before his last original strip appeared in Sunday newspapers. But what has Wagner to do with it? NO...he is not turning 60 today (not yet!) - but I can clear see a great affinity between them - both enjoy their job and I don't know if it will be doing exactly what he is doing today, but I can picture Wagner the same way as Schulz...working and involved with Education untill his retirement (which could be just at the end of his days). May God bless you with a healthy, long and wealthy life! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The weight of the WORDS

According to the issue of Newsweek (September 20, 2010) - 130 POUNDS – Exactly that -130 pounds is weight of the Oxford English Dictionary. Its publisher says the next edition may be online-only.
Language is an "alive" element and changes over the years due to the influence of people who speak the language. Today, a very famous TV presenter said "You can read it (the book written by Ingrid Betancourt -'Even Silence has an End') or you can kindle it! The word kindle was created to define the digital reader launched by the online bookstore Amazon. The noun was used now as a verb too! So, it's not so hard to imagine why the publishers are considering just one online edition...can you image 10 years from now...how many pounds would the dictinary weight?
It's amazing, isn't it?

The Nordic World - Norway (Part I)

Absolutamente festivo!
WHAT A GREAT DAY! BEAUTIFUL PLACE, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!
TRADITIONS! ALWAYS VERY IMPORTANT!

Just missing Norway and the calm and peace of that gorgeous day!

Fill in the blank...

Studying English is really getting easier day by day! There are a lot of tools that can help us to improve our language learning process - web, magazines, newspapers, friends, books, blogs, etc. One of these magazines (Go! English Brazil) has done an interesting article. It asked some people to fill in the this blank - English is _________. Let's check some answers:

"English is necessary." - Sharanya, 19, student from Mumbai, India
"English is THE international language." - Janathan, 31, medical student from Ames, Iowa, USA
"English is chaotic. Iam talking about English pronunciation. There are too many ways to pronounce the same letter It gets really confusing for English leaners and does not help native speakers either when they come across a new word and try to pronounce it." - Ngan, 26, teacher from Boston, Massachusetts, USA
"English is a work in progress. The Oxford English Dictionary has to be added to every year to reflect the constant changes.(...)A lot of the changes have resulted from the computer age and the influence of Microsoft that is universally accessed. "- Dawn, 48, writer from Bath, UK
"English is beautifully versatile." - Erin, 27, teacher from Duluth, Georgia, USA
And what about you? How could you (3ºEM) fill in this blank? Let me know your opinion!

Reflexão no aniversário do P.H.

(I don't). E justamente alguns dias atrás eu andei "escorregando" em alguns números e acabei fechando as médias do pessoal do 2ºA (EM) erradas! SORRY!

No doubt...reading is really cool! At least, in Morro Reuter-RS!

Do you enjoy reading? If we ask this question to a person who lives in Morro Reuter (RS) the answer would probably be a stoundous YES!
In this German descent small and fragrant city, with 5000 inhabitants and filled with beds of lavender on the sidewalks, the fact of enjoying books is not something new!The city is in the second position in the Brazilian ranking of literacy, according to IBGE. In the municipal library, the are about 15,000 books, which gives us an amazing statistic - for the population it serves, there are three books per capita (if the city of Sao Paulo had similar rate, there would be at least 36 millions of copies in the "paulistanas" public libraries). In October, the city promotes the Book Fair, which has become a big event in town! (Let's go to visit it?)
The city symbol is a literary obelisk represented by a pile of 72 books (11 meters height).
I guess we should follow this example! And by the way, do you know how many books are there in the school library?

2º EM - Remember - Send your paper work about reading up to September,10th. Thanks!

Valeu a experiência! Corrigir provas assim faz muita diferença... sorte do 2ºEM!

NO EXCUSES! NOT AT ALL!

Hi people!
Our tests are coming and we do need to study. In fact, we need to study, not only because of the tests, but also to really have an idea of what we really learn and what we should put a little bit more effort to learn. So, if we do it in our day by day, now that we are going to face the tests, we don't need exactly to study hard...I would say that it will be just a kind of a review.
Studying can be a very rewarding experience, it only depends exclusively of you!

And by the way, as I promise, here is the link to the answers of the exercises from booklet 06 (2º EM). Check your answers and if you have any doubt, just let me know!

Have a good week and a nice test!

BACK TO SCHOOL! Welcome...welcome back!

Daqui a pouco teremos as provas trimestrais e a dica é a mesma: LEIAM!
Where the wild things are!"

Going to the movies.....and also to Starbucks - Tks God!

What a lovely night! Thanks a lot folks!

Obrigada!

Let's study! The TEST WEEK is just around the corner!

Tomorrow will start the "TEST WEEK" and it can be a kind of a nerve-racking period if you are not well structured. Like a lot of things in our life, studying requires planning and certain atitudes that should be commom in our day-by-day. The matter is that we've been very busy and these "certain attitudes", (such as, reading good articles, observe around, writing important notes, and so on)become neglected due to all the to-do- things.
You know that we need to be a very organized person, but sometimes we don't know exactly what to do and some help is always welcomed.
The University of Illinois (Chicago)offers some good tips to help students to overcome four causes of poor concentration (external distractions, internal distractions, fatigue, and lack of interest) that can sabotage your studies.
You can read all about it HERE, just click and enjoy! it on:
I personally would add an extra tip: having some good tea while reading...it helps to relax and focus! It really works for me!
And what about you, do you have any tip to share with us and that can help you when you need to study? WRITE IT DOWN!
So, I do hope all of us can have a good period with lots of positive resulsts at the end of it! And believe me, I hope you can enjoy your English test as much as I enjoyed doing it!

What a nice afternoon!

Pinups are back! In fact, they have always been fashion!

Pinups were a huge sucess from 1930s until the early 1970s. It's a picture of a sexually attractive and usually famous person (but not always), especially someone wearing few clothes.
Read the text "Smile and Say Cheesecake!" and complete the exercises based on the text. (The exercises are on the site http://pessoal.educacional.com.br/katia-ingles)
And what about you, would you like to be a pinup for one day? Celeste Giuliano can help you!
You can get more information about the Celeste Giuliano’s work (the Philadelphia photographer of modern pinups) on the site:

Happy Easter!

The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back to Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.
Easter is now celebrated (in the words of the Book of Common Prayer) on the first Sunday after the full moon which happens on or after March 21, the Spring Equinox.
In the United States Easter is celebrated with a large Easter Egg Hunt by children on the White House Lawn.

To all of you, I'd like to wish a very blessed and joyful Easter, full of chocolate (but the dark one because its antioxidant chemicals).

ENJOY IT!

Welcome Friends!
